Enroll Your Unfinished Paintings
In Kay's "Finishing School"
 We all get stalled
every now and then and don’t know what we need to do to finish our paintings, so we toss them aside and begin anew. We end up with many promising pieces of unfinished paintings that nag us and mock us and beg us to come back. Before you add any more to the unfinished pile, bring them to the finishing school and let Kay help you get a jump start! Learn how to get over the bump in the road that keeps you potential masterpieces in a drawer instead of a frame! We will have constant critiques and learn where the hurdles are and find techniques to solve the problems and move your paintings to the finish line!!!
This unique workshop will be offered
only twice this summer. You may want to attend one day or all ten days. You may come as many days as you like at a very nominal fee of
$50.00 per day. Bring your paintings and prepare to have an exciting and satisfying workshop experience.

Kay's Treated Paper Workshop For 2010
This is one of Kay’s most requested workshops ever! The treated paper workshop is a very unique experience in working with transparent watercolor. The surface of hot pressed paper is coated with acrylic medium and then watercolor applied loosely and abstractly. The outcome is a mystery all the way through the process. Words like intriguing and amazing come to mind as we watch the magic unfold. The workshop will begin with a great lesson in design and include daily critiques to guide the student through this fascinating process. Learning to let go and let the medium of watercolor take over is part of the benefit of this workshop. The
"stand-back-in -awe" principal is definitely at work here. You may work out design problems, create fabulous textures, rework areas and lift out paint as much as your painting requires with out the usual problems we might have in more traditional approaches. You may create a very loose and abstract painting or work with it to bring closer to realism. We will explore rocks and waterfalls, brilliant florals,
and birds using this unusual and
exciting approach. This is a fast and
fun adventure in painting!! Class size
is limited. Sign up soon!
Registration begins now and the cost is $225.00 for all three days.
Classes are from 10:00am - 3:00pm, August 6, 7, & 8, 2010

Approaches To Painting
Watercolor at Ocean Shores
The focus of this workshop will be working with a variety of approaches in one painting. We will paint the large shapes as an underpainting using sectional wet into wet passages. We will then proceed to layer in colors, isolating and defining more specific elements as the painting progresses. The various approaches used to create the painting will include wet into wet, wet on dry, charging color and glazing. The workshop experience will challenge your skills and help
you develop new ones. You will let you determine the subject matter and approaches that suit that subject most effectively. Kay will provide a comprehensive lecture and demo in the mornings, and assist you with your efforts in the afternoons. Each day a different subject will be offered. Join us for a lively and rewarding journey with a lot of encouragement and support from a master teacher.

November in Hawaii!
Come With Kay To The The Kauai Watercolor Workshop

Join Kay in expanding your watercolor painting skills with
five days of on site demos and critiques as you paint
the beautiful gardens, beaches and sunsets of the Poipu area of Kauai, the
Garden Isle.
Painting on location can overwhelm
you as an artist. Kay will help you to
break down complex scenes into
manageable forms. How do we
choose the most interesting parts and
give them life? You will learn how to
convey the beauty of the "Garden Isle"
into watercolor with new approaches
and techniques that Kay brings to all
of her workshops. Your painting will
be more creative and the artistic energy
that Kay brings will be contagious
to all.
Artists of all skill levels benefit from
Kay's teaching and encouragement.
We will have a variety of subjects to
challenge us in this workshop and all
of us will take something new and rejuvenating
from this experience.
Subjects covered in the five days of
instruction: Plein air work, planning and design, color mixing and simplifying complex subjects with daily critiques of students' work.
Enjoy the camaraderie of fellow students in
family style lodging in adjacent homes within
the lovely Poipu Kai Resort. Both homes are
located mid-way between Shipwreck Beach in
front of the Grand Hyatt and Brennecke's
Beach (body surfing) and Poipi Beach, great for
swimming and snorkeling. All beaches can be
reached within a ten to fifteen minute walk
through the tropical gardens and green belt of
Poipu Kai Resort. The resort's swimming pool,
spa and tennis courts are also within walking
distance.
The Kauai workshop will be from
November 14th to November 21st 2010 (7
days). Cost is $1300.00 and does not
include airfare. A $300.00
reservation fee is required and

We painted plein air and in the studio, the other artists
on the trip made this workshop special with their focus
on the learning experience and sense of fun they brought
to the group outings and shared meals. I don't think I
have ever enjoyed a trip more while learning new and
effective ways to paint."
