Here is the current offering of Kay's popular Workshops at both the Eden Gallery and other locations nationwide. Come and participate, they are fun and will add to your portfolio of watercolor technique. Eden Gallery is located at 18815 156th Ave. N.E. Woodinville, WA, other locations as noted.
If you cannot participate at the these special workshops, there are many sponsored workshops throughout the year at local art centers and art stores like McDee's (eastern Washington) and Daniel Smith (Bellevue/Seattle).  The focus of this workshop will be working with a variety of approaches in one painting. We will paint the large shapes as an underpainting using sectional wet into wet passages. We will then proceed to layer in colors, isolating and defining more specific elements as the painting progresses. The various approaches used to create the painting will include wet into wet, wet on dry, charging color and glazing. The workshop experience will challenge your skills and help you develop new ones. You will let you determine the subject matter and approaches that suit that subject most effectively. Kay will provide a comprehensive lecture and demo in the mornings, and assist you with your efforts in the afternoons. Each day a different subject will be offered. Join us for a lively and rewarding journey with a lot of encouragement and support from a master teacher. This 4-Day Workshop will be held October 4, 5, 6, 7, 2010 (9 am - 4 pm, Monday through Friday) at the Polynesian Resort at Ocean Shores, WA (thepolynesian.com 360-289-3361 or 1-800-562-4836). The cost is for this workshop is $290.00. As always, please remember that these workshops have limited space and fill-up quickly, so enroll soon. We can only accept the first 20. Paint Plein Aire on Beautiful Maui with Kay Barnes October 30th thru November 6th  Learn plein aire watercolor techniques with Kay while enjoying cool breezes, spectacular ocean views and unforgettable sunsets on the sunny side of Maui at the beautiful Maui Sunset Condominiums. At the Maui Sunset you will see garden views reaching to the ocean and every unit is surrounded by manicured lawns, continuously blooming tropical flowers, and swaying palms. The grounds provide an ideal atmosphere for creating with walking paths and garden benches that invite a feeling of paradise. The 60 foot "l" shaped pool is one of the largest in Maui and is surrounded by gas lit tiki torches each evening. Enjoy the large hot-tub, dozens of deck chairs, & the pool side Concierge. Transportation while on Maui is provided for scheduled activities and as necessary on art instruction days. Breakfast and lunch on instruction days will be a combination of Continental Breakfasts, box lunches, and no host group breakfast and lunches at special locations. Prepare to be surprised and inspired. Each exciting day of plein aire instruction is planned for a new subject and location. Condominium units at the Maui Sunset are outfitted in the island style. Full kitchens, air conditioning, washer/dryer, Cable TV/DVD are standard. Each unit has its own private view deck, with a four person table and chairs. Perfect for warm Maui evenings. The Maui Sunset workshop will be from October 30th to November 6th 2009 (7 days). Cost is $1300.00 and does not include airfare (Hawaiian Air has a direct flight to Maui). A $300.00 reservation fee is required and enrollees to this class are limited to only 10 so reserve your space early.
