Kay's original watercolors are images of things close to her heart. Places and things that are meaningful. Rather than a panoramic view of the world, Kay likes to bring things up close and personal. She enjoys playing with shapes and design, but tries always to keep the image clear, fresh and realistic. Bright Colors, beautiful shapes and high contrast are all elements in paintings that appeal to and inspire her.

Original Watercolors

Kay has taken a different approach to watercolor in her treated paper watercolors. In order to achieve the remarkable textures of rocks and flowing water, Kay treats watercolor paper with an acrylic medium. She then applies transparent watercolor paint in very abstract designs sculps shapes she envisions in the puddles that form on their own. It's like finding the hidden pictures. Images simply emerge and Kay tries to manipulate the paint so that the viewer sees what she sees. Much of the time it's a matter of "stand back in awe".
